Overcoming Insurmountable Barriers And Limitations Of Life
We have a wonderful show lined up for you. It is called Surmounting the Barriers and Limitations of Life. Let’s face it, we all deal with barriers. We all deal with limitations in life. I know I’ve had to deal with some insurmountable barriers in life and I’ve been able to conquer them. I’ve been able to overcome them. I’m sure you perhaps have some barriers, maybe some limitations in your life, and I want to help you get over those. I want to help you deal with that. I want to give you some insights into how you can overcome feeling defeated and oppressed. I want to help you rise above your challenges and obstacles and live a life that you want to live. I want you to live a life that is not controlled by your environment or external circumstances and situations. A lot of times we find ourselves in those types of situations, especially when we are trying to reach for our hopes and dreams.
Sometimes it seems like the obstacles, the challenges that stand in our way are larger than life and I want to help you get over that. Whenever disaster strikes, whenever there’s this drastic event or experience that you may find yourself in or has occurred in your life and you want to figure out how to get out of it, I’m going to help you do that on this game changer mentality episode, and help you be a game changer in that situation. I have to start this conversation realizing that and informing you that whenever there’s a situation, whether it’s an insurmountable barrier, whether there are limitations, whatever it is, we have a choice on how we allow that situation to affect us. The true question is, “What are you going to do when you’re facing that type of situation?”
Change Your Mindset
A lot of people respond by default and that’s called a reaction. It’s not called a response, but they react to the situation. A lot of times we react with anger. We may react with fear, we may react with something that’s not empowering or serves us in the manner that will help us get over the situation. Sometimes it’s blame. Sometimes we point the finger and I want to help you because the key to overcoming any type of situation, especially when it comes to how you feel, feeling oppressed, feeling defeated, feeling down and out is really the perspective.
It’s the mindset that you have towards whatever the situation is. I invite you to change your perspective about that thing. Change your perspective, your mindset, your mentality about how you are looking at it. What is your viewpoint? Your viewpoint could be anger. It could be fear, it could be defeat, and it could be oppression. That’s not serving you, that’s not empowering, that’s not going to help you get out of that.
As a matter of fact, it’s going to push you further away from conquering that particular issue until we look at it a certain way, a more empowering way, we’re not going to grow. We’re going to stay in it. We’re not going to find ourselves pulling ourselves out of that situation. The thing about it is whenever we are in that type of mindset, it’s like cancer. It can start to fester. It can start to grow and you can find yourself not only feeling down and out or defeated, but you can start getting into things like depression and mental conditions, being hateful and irritable and not being a person that people would like to be around. You start to spiral out of control. You lose yourself in the situation. You find yourself settling for whatever it is that is defeating you and it takes control over you.
[Tweet “One way to get on a positive side of that particular situation is look at it as an opportunity for growth for yourself.”]
One way to combat that, one way to get on a positive note, get on a positive side of that particular situation is look at it as an opportunity for growth for yourself. Maybe there are some challenges, maybe there are some obstacles going on in your life, but that’s the beauty of it. You have the ability to overcome that. You have to see this as a possibility and an opportunity for you to overcome it. When you look at it that way, it’s not just the situation that’s defeating you, but it’s more so an opportunity for you to rise above it, for you to get yourself in a place where you can get yourself together and realize what it is that you need to do in order to overcome this.
A lot of times that requires growth but sometimes, we don’t think like that. When we don’t think like that, I feel, we have a fixed mindset, a defeated mindset. The right mindset to have, in my opinion, whenever you’re in those types of situations, is a growth mindset. When we have a growth mindset, it doesn’t matter what we may be going through, what situation may arise. You’re always looking at it as an opportunity for us to grow.
We’re looking at what things do I need to do in order to better the situation? How can I improve? How can I fix it? What can I do to better it? A person that has that type of mindset or be defeated because that’s the growth mindset. That is really the growth mindset and what that person does is identify what’s good about the situation. That’s the type of person that’s going to look and say, “I have this situation that seems insurmountable. There are limitations but what’s good about this?”
It could be the simple fact that it’s an opportunity for you to grow. It could be that it has opened up some other door for growth for you. It could have been a situation where you realize more about yourself, realize certain things about yourself that you didn’t realize. It could be things that are great, maybe some strengths or it could have been that it identifies some weaknesses about yourself that you didn’t realize, but now you’ve brought those to the surface and you can work on them. You may not even have realized that this was a weakness for you. You may not have ever realized that that was a problem area for you.
Whatever it is, you have to do an analysis of the challenges and situations that come up and really take a step back. Our first reaction is to blame or anger or fear or whatever it is but calm yourself. I love being able to be calm and assess the situation for everything that it’s worth. Not for the defeat that it causes, or the fear that it causes, or the trouble that it causes, the heartache that it causes, but what about the opportunity that it causes, what about the strength that it could potentially bring forward? Those are the types of things that you want to take a look at and although it may seem big, maybe you’ve identified some strengths that you need to work on. Some weaknesses that you need to work on, some things that you need to do and it may seem big. It may seem like, “I will never get there. I need to learn that or I need to fix that. That seems too big for me.”
Break Down Challenges Into Manageable Pieces
The thing about that is you can break that down into manageable pieces. I love something that a mentor has told me that has stuck with me and it is to reduce it to the ridiculous. Whatever the challenge is, whatever it may be, we have the opportunity to break it down into manageable pieces. Figure out how we can really conquer this or take action on this thing on a daily basis. What am I going to do now that’s going to help me bite off a piece of this issue? It’s like an elephant. You don’t eat an elephant in one bite.
The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Tony Robbins calls it chunking. You can chunk things down, break it down into manageable pieces and then it won’t seem so insurmountable. It won’t seem so big. A lot of time, it’s the perception of what’s going on the situation and that can seem so big that we feel like, “I am not going to deal with that. I’m not even going to attempt to deal with that because it seems so far out of my league, so far out of my reach.” To put any effort forward to conquering that, in my mind seems like a waste of time. That’s all a perception.

Overcoming Insurmountable Barriers: Whatever the challenge is, whatever it may be, we have the opportunity to break it down into manageable pieces.
When you can break it down into manageable pieces, break it down into things that you can do on a daily basis, you find that is not huge to you. It’s something that you can take control of, something that you can manage and then you can get clear. What that really does is it creates a plan of action or plan of attack. A lot of times, we don’t go out and set our minds on conquering big things because we’re not clear on how to actually do it.
It just seems so big and because it’s so big, I’m not even going to try. We haven’t sat down and done an analysis. We haven’t developed a plan of attack or plan of action. When you can get clear about that, you can start developing better feelings. You can get clear about what it is that you’re going to do and because you’re clear about what it is that you’re going to do, you have a plan of attack. That is something that you can feel good about and you can feel good about waking up every day. Working towards overcoming that limitation.
Create That Action Plan
It can be something as simple as placing money away every day or once a week because you have a goal of saving X amount of dollars. It could be something as simple as increasing clients and you want to gain a certain amount of clients every week. Whatever that is and then you have a plan of action to do that and as long as you have the action plan, as long as you have that process and that process is working, you can accomplish that goal. That limitation goes away and it now becomes an opportunity for you to overcome that and actually live.
Realize and experience what it is that you want to experience. This is all easy, simple stuff to do and to incorporate into our lives, but it’s the perception that has to change in order for you to take that action, in order for you to take the steps towards creating that action plan, creating that plan of attack, reducing it down to the ridiculous. Identifying what is good or what needs to be worked on for you.
Sometimes these problems and challenges that come up, the opportunities for us to get clear, the opportunities for us to develop new plans of attack, new ways of thinking, new ways of even being. I invite you to just take a look at that. You can replace those feelings of overwhelm, being defeated and oppressed with managing the process, breaking it down, getting clear, and that’s how you move beyond those feelings and bring you in a place where you can rise above the challenge.
You can rise above the obstacle and you can start living the life that you want to live. This includes making a freaking decision about what it is that you’re going to do. It may seem big. It may seem like it’s hard, it’s going to take some time, it’s going to take some effort. If it’s the life that you want to live, then I think is worth it. Make a freaking decision. Make the decision that you’re going to do it and then commit to that decision.
That’s how you rise above challenges. That’s how you rise above obstacles. It’s making a decision that you’re going to do it. Sometimes we’re looking for a magic wand. A lot of it is just grit and willpower. It is making a decision and committing that I’m not going to settle for what my environment has given me. No, instead I’m going to create an environment that’s conducive, inspires and encourages you to carry out your vision, to carry out your action plan, to carry out your plan of attack.
That’s how you do it and then have the faith, courage, determination and the will to stick to that. Have faith in your ability. Have faith that the right people are going to come into your circle. Have faith that the right clients are going to come. The right amount of money is going to come. The right job is going to come. The right tools are going to come. The right mentors are going to come. The right people are going to come, the right knowledge and the information.
Create Space For What It Is That You Want
All of this stuff is going to come to you, because you committed and you’ve made a decision and you created an environment where all of this stuff can come to you. You may have to get rid of some things. You might have to put some new things in your environment. You may have to stop doing some of the things that you’ve been doing. You may have to create space for what it is that you want. If you really want to rise above this thing, you have to make it a priority and certain things just have to happen.
Certain things have to stop happening because it’s adding to the misery. It’s adding to the limitation. It’s adding to the barrier. If you want to remove that barrier, you’ve got to remove everything that is causing the barrier to exist. You’ve got to be fed up with it, done with it. It has to be pathetic to you. It has to make you super uncomfortable. You have to get to the place where you only want certain things in your life that’s going to allow you to rise above the challenge. That’s it.
[Tweet “Your mouth is either constructing your life for you or it’s destroying your life.”]
Speak Positivity To Your Situation
You have to speak positivity to your situation. We all know that life and death lies in the power of the tongue. Your mouth is either constructing your life for you or it’s destroying your life. If you don’t like where your life is at, I ask you, “What have you been speaking into the universe?” Take a check and see what you have been speaking and then change it. Speak Life. Speak the things you want. Believe in the things that you want. Speak to the situation.
This is the most important thing, whenever you’re speaking, make sure that your actions match your thoughts, match what you’re speaking. A lot of times we can speak certain things. We can say that I’m going to do this or I’m going to be the next this. I’m going to be the next millionaire. I’m going to be the next billionaire. I’m going to be the next number one draft pick. I’m going to be healthy and fit. We can say all of those things, but then when we go home, our actions don’t match that.
Apply The Disciple And Put What You Speak Into Action
We’re not doing the things that takes for us to realize the vision that we’re speaking. We don’t do it. When I see you have a can of soda in your hand, you have a piece of fried chicken in your hand, you’re not working out. You’re not taking the time to show love and affection, but you want a great relationship. You have to speak this thing until you have to go and put what you speak in action.
I’m sure you’ve heard that faith without works is dead. It is dead so you can speak it all day long. You can say it all day long, you can believe it all day long. If you have faith, you can have faith all day long, but if your actions are not matching up with the words that you say, if your actions are not matching up with your mindset, with your faith then you’re disconnected. It’s not going to happen. That’s where discipline comes in. You have to apply the discipline. Apply the discipline to speaking. Apply the discipline to carry out the plan of attack.
Practice Self-Care
Apply the discipline and this is where a lot of people lose it because it requires effort and they get tired. I just want to insert in here, whenever you’re trying to do these things, whenever you’re trying to overcome or surmount on a barrier, when you’re trying to overcome some limitation, it is so important that you practice self-care within the process. I understand it’s stressful. It does require a lot of energy. It requires a lot of thought. It requires a lot of work, requires a lot of effort, and one of the things that can keep you energized is to make sure that you’re practicing self-care, that you’re taking care of yourself and that can be simple as getting enough sleep, that you’re eating properly. I did a show maybe a couple of episodes ago about your health and your nutrition and I believe that is the foundation to accomplishing anything for success, overcoming barriers, limitations.
If you don’t have that part right, you are significantly disadvantaged when it comes to being that type of person that can overcome challenges, that can overcome limitations, and barriers. That is really going to give you an edge and give you the strength and the endurance and stamina that you need to hang in there. This stuff doesn’t happen overnight. A lot of people have lost the battle because they just simply ran out of gas. They just simply gave up because it was too long.
I remember it was eighteen years before I was able to get out of a wheelchair. I remember at year ten I was like, “I’ve put in ten years of work, ten years of faith, ten years of believing and I’m still not where I want to be yet. “I’m still doing some of the same things that I was doing ten years ago when I first started. I’m still walking. I’m still going to the gym. I’m still doing the stretches and the exercises. I’m still doing the visualizations but I have to get up every day and push a wheelchair and nothing wrong with that. I was blessed to be able to get up and push the wheelchair, but it wasn’t my vision. I hadn’t overcome the barrier. I wanted to overcome the barrier. I wanted to overcome the limitation. I had to keep going.

Overcoming Insurmountable Barriers: Wake up every day focused and determined to execute towards that plan because it’s our vision and our why is big enough to the point that we can’t let that go.
The doctors weren’t saying anything different. They were still saying the same thing. I remember going to one doctor who was in Georgetown. He evaluated me and all of that. After he evaluated me and he looked at my MRI scans, he seen where the injury was, he said to me, “With your ability right now and I do understand your desire to walk. I know you’re not walking, but where you are right now, given the level of functionality that you have, I want you to realize that you are 1% of the people that suffer this type of injury, recover to the point where you are right now. This is miraculous where you are now and I know you want to walk but there’s nothing that we can do. Only 1% get this far.” It didn’t matter to me because I wanted to overcome the barrier and I could’ve just settled for, “There’s no point in me continuing on. There is no point in me putting for additional effort. I might as well stop right here.”
Create That Vision
That would’ve been me living a life that is controlled by my environment, controlled by my external circumstances, and I didn’t want to do that. I had already created a vision and I was speaking forth of that vision. That vision of what I wanted, the life that I desired and I wasn’t willing to let that go. That’s what we have to do. We have to create that vision. We can’t allow the circumstances and the situation that go on in life or outside of life to dictate the life that we live. I realized that there are some things that are uncontrollable, but we have that vision. We can stay steadfast towards that vision and not let that vision go and work towards it. Break it down, find the action plans. Wake up every day focused and determined to execute towards that plan because it’s our vision and our why is big enough to the point that we can’t let that go.
We have to follow through. We have to have the strength to keep going. We have to have the endurance and the stamina to hang in there and that’s going to require us to practice self-care. It’s going to cause us to create that vision, to visualize, to use our minds and not allow the things on the outside to dictate what our lives should look like, what our lives should be like. That’s why we have an imagination. I love having an imagination because you can imagine your life. You can sit down and imagine the life that you want. You can get clear about what it is that you want. There may be circumstances, there may be situations that are not favorable to you, but that doesn’t mean you can dream.
It doesn’t mean that you can’t use your imagination to create the life that you want. It doesn’t mean that you can’t get crystal clear about what your heart’s desire is and actually get to the point where you write that out on paper or you create pictures of what it is. You create yourself a vision board and you put it somewhere where you can see it every single day. You look at it. You see and you get emotional about it and you feel what it feels like to have this in your hand and in your position to the point where you say, “I am not going to stop acting, doing, behaving and working towards this dream until I get it.”
You have that ability and I’m going to tell you I’ve been through that. I’ve done that. I’ve experienced that. I had that determination and I just was not willing to let my dream go. I created an environment that was conducive to me experiencing that. Whether it was eating healthy, making sure I had the right foods and making sure I had the right workout schedule. Making sure I woke up at certain times in order to get the workouts done. When it comes to my business, it’s the same way with everything that I’ve accomplished in my life. Everything that I desired in my life, I create that environment. I create that environment because I had that vision and I have a why that’s just drawn. A lot of us don’t have a big enough why?
The reason for having that life, the reason for experiencing that life is not strong enough to deal with the rejection that you may experience on the way to experiencing the life that you want. There will be rejections, there will be shortfalls, there will be shortcomings, but if your why is big enough, whenever you fall, you get back up. If your why is big enough, whenever you get hit, you will keep on going. If your why is big enough, whenever you get tired, you’ll find the strength. If your why is big enough, you understand that you have to refuel, so that you can come back the next day and continue on with the fight, so you can press on and continue to move. Continue to press forward towards your mark.
We have to create that vision and that vision can help us create a plan. A plan that’s going to help us live a life that we create, not that’s controlled by the environment, that’s controlled by our external circumstances. This is how you overcome surmounting barriers. This is how you overcome limitations. You can’t avoid barriers. You can’t avoid limitations. All you can do is get over them, and I’ve heard someone say without a vision, people perish. They get consumed by the things of the world. They get consumed by the external circumstances. They get consumed by the environment, and it swallows them up and spits them out and they settle. They live a life that they feel that they have no control. They live by default instead of creating the life that they love.
This requires growth. It requires you to look deep down inside yourself and identify the person that you want to be because a lot of times the thing that we want in life, the desires that we have in life, it has requirements. To whom much is given, much is required. If you want a certain thing, you have to ask yourself, “What type of person obtains that? Who do I have to be to achieve that?” Whether it’s a relationship or a business or a certain type of money or a certain type of body, whatever it is.
Maybe it’s a certain house, maybe it’s a certain education. Who do you have to be and then when you realize who do you have to be? Maybe you have to be a type of person that’s earning $100,000 a year. Maybe you have to be a type of person that’s earned $200,000 a year. Maybe you have to be a type of person as the CEO or Board of Director or owns their own business or super athletic, who eats right, who workouts twice a day. Maybe you have to be the type of person who shows love and affection, who’s very caring, endearing, who is focused on serving. Maybe you have to be a super productive person.
[Tweet “People don’t experience what they really want to experience in life because of broken focus.”]
Stay Laser-Focused
If you find yourself not fitting that, what can you do to put yourself in that position? What do you have to do on a daily basis? What do you need to change? What do you need to get rid of? What things do you need to bring in that will allow you to experience that? What is your plan, what is your goal that’s going to allow you to experience your vision? What is that? We have to get clear on that. We’d have to get crystal clear. We’ll have to stay laser-focused. I was listening to a video on YouTube the other day, it was a motivational video and the speaker said that most people don’t experience what they really want to experience in life because of broken focus. It’s not ability. It’s not lack of resources. It’s not because of a relationship. It’s because of broken focus.
I realized that there are a ton of distractions. The higher you go in success, the more that you achieve in success, it seems the more distractions there are. You’ve got to not only get good at being successful. You’ve got to not only get good at making a plan. You’ve got to not only get good at changing your perspective, having a growth mindset, making a decision, committing to it and creating an environment that’s conducive to you accomplishing your goal. One that inspires you and encourages you, not only applying discipline to your life and having the faith and the courage and the determination to carry out your plan of attack, but you also have to get good at staying focused.
This is truly a skill. You have to get good at putting on the blinders, shutting things out. This is what your environment really truly does come in place because if you set your environment upright, you will find yourself always being in a place that’s going to be conducive to your growth, going to be conducive to you overcoming barriers, conducive to you reaching your goals, conducive to you carrying out your plan. You have to set that up. You have to get rid of the distractions. One of the things that helps me whenever I get distractions is taking it through whatever the distraction. The WIN strategy, it’s the WIN test.
What’s Important Now? WIN. Whenever I get distracted, whenever something pops up unexpectedly that it seems like I got to stop what I’m doing or it’s going to take me off my course. I asked myself what’s important now. If that thing is not more important than what it is that I need to do right now that’s going to keep me focused, keep me on track, keep me on course towards the goals and the dreams that I have for myself, I don’t do it. I don’t do it unapologetically. Sometimes you’ve got to get bold about your goals. You’ve got to get bold about your dreams. If you’re going to overcome surmountable barriers, anyone can overcome small barriers. Anyone can overcome small limitations, but if you want to overcome something big, it’s going to require massive focus. It’s going to require massive action. The bigger the goal, the more focus that you have to have.
You can’t be timid. She can’t be trying to please everybody. You’ve got to focus on your goal. You have to focus on the task at hand. You have to do it unapologetically because sometimes people may not understand what it is that you’re after. They may not understand what it is that you’re doing. They may not understand your why. As a matter of fact, they may not have a why. They may not have a goal. They may not have a dream and they may not be dealing with the limitations and the obstacles that you’re dealing with. You have to ask yourself, what’s important now? Should I break myself from this right now? Is this something that I can handle later? You have to ask yourself that. Your goals, your dreams, your vision, what does that mean to you? If you’re not careful, life, your environment, external circumstances, insurmountable barriers, limitations, they’ll stop you and they keep you in a place where you’re never happy, you’re unsatisfied. There’s more for you to experience and you feel you’re settling for less.

Overcoming Insurmountable Barriers: The game changer mentality is the best mentality because that is going to give you the tools that you need to change the game in your life and in your business.
You’re not living the life that you truly want to live. You’re living a life that’s being controlled by your external environment. You’re not really creating. You’re not giving life back. Life is a gift. Life is truly a gift and it’s short here on Earth. Take a look at the average lifespan of a human being, 70 to 80 years. We could accomplish a lot in 70, 80 years if we have the right mindset. A lot of times people don’t get to the place where they understand this, where they’re aware of what they’re capable of, or to create a process or how they’ve been living and how have they been creating a life that they’re truly not happy with until they’re about 40 or late 30s.
They spend the first part of their life trying to figure this out. Then the second part of life trying to fix everything that’s been destroyed because they didn’t know. I stand now, taking a stand for you, that you will understand and grab some tools that will allow you to overcome the insurmountable barriers, the limitations in your life, whether it be financial relationship, health-wise, business, family, career, because you can live your best life.
The barriers and the limitations that are present in your life they don’t have to control you. As a matter of fact, you can use them and change your perspective about them to catapult you, to grow, to find out more about yourself that will allow you to overcome it. That is the growth mindset and you have the ability to choose, so choose wisely. The game changer mentality is the best mentality. It is the way to go because that is going to give you the tools that you need to change the game in your life and in your business.
