Some people are not happy unless they have money, but for others, seeing people happy is already happiness. Calvin Swan, an Executive Consultant at Ambit Energy Success, shares the challenges he went through in life and the lessons he learned on his blessing journey. From a troubled teenager, he transformed himself into an educator, teaching people about saving and making money through Ambit. Calvin talks about the rejection and the resistance in his life and how he handled them through constant positivity and gratefulness. He also notes the importance of knowing who you are in terms of gaining success in business and in family. He credits his success to his love for life, spiritual soundness, and his marketing skills and the opportunities it has offered him.

Gaining Business Success And Spiritual Soundness with Calvin Swan

I have Calvin Swan with me. No one’s road to success is easy, but Calvin Swan’s was rougher than most. He grew up in the foster care system with no mother or father and was separated from his sister at an early age. He found himself in trouble as a teenager. As he matured and discovered a more spiritual life, he steered his life in a more productive direction and found he had a knack for sales. Mr. Calvin Swan, welcome to the show.

Thank you. It’s an honor to be on your show.

It’s an honor to have you. I’ve heard some wonderful things about you. I’ve introduced you using a part of your story. I know it’s not the whole thing. Knowing what I know about you, I’m excited to interview you. You’re going to be wonderful for the audience because of your journey and where you are now, which is something that I want to get into. Tell us a little bit about your journey.

GCM 58 | Spiritual Soundness

Spiritual Soundness: What people do not understand about deregulation is that the government is breaking up monopolies with gas and electric companies.

My journey to where I’m at now is truly a blessing because I didn’t see myself being in a situation that I am in right now and being married with two kids. I didn’t see myself being in that situation because I didn’t have any role model. Growing up in foster care with no mom and no dad and no guidance, nobody is helping me. The only thing I had to do was get involved in the streets, meaning getting involved with gangs and drugs. I had experienced a lot of bad things that come with that lifestyle, which I understood what came with it. I lost my best friend in it. Due to drugs overdose, I lost my mom over it. It’s been a wild journey, but it’s also a blessing journey as well.

At least that part of the journey is over and you’ve been able to make a pivot or change the game in your life to where you are right now. Tell us about where you are right now. What are some of the things that you’re doing?

First, I started to get into basketball to get myself out of that situation. Getting involved with basketball also drew me to meet a lot of different people in this different world we live in. After doing basketball, I also got experience in network marketing from a company called Ambit Energy. I didn’t even know that you can make this type of money in network marketing. I didn’t know anything about network marketing. God just gave me an opportunity. I took it and ran with it. It brought me to where I’m at right now with the time I spend with my wife and kids. I branch off and do other things as well. My journey with that has been amazing.

The reason why you haven’t accomplished what you’re trying to accomplish is because you’re not consistent. Click To Tweet

All of that has been related to sales. Why don’t you tell us what Ambit Energy is about?

Ambit Energy is not sales. That’s what I love about it. We don’t sell anything. We’re a service. My passion is to help people. What people don’t understand about deregulation is that the government is breaking up monopolies with the gas company and electric companies. We are the third-party supplier, which we help people save money on gas and electric bill. Their supply part is the reason why people’s bills are so high. My job is to educate people on what deregulation is, how you can save money and also how you can make money. There are no contracts involved, no extra hidden fees and things like that. It’s truly a blessing to be a part of something where you don’t feel like you’re getting over anybody with it or lying to anybody about it and you’re not selling. It’s a service. It’s a great opportunity. A lot of people need to get involved because it is the largest transfer of wealth in US history.

Getting involved with this company has been a game changer for you.

GCM 58 | Spiritual Soundness

Spiritual Soundness: Resistance can motivate you to accomplish what you want to accomplish.

It’s been a big-time game changer because it came at a point where I don’t like working for anybody. When I got this opportunity, I quit my job on the first day. That’s why I knew God wanted me to do this. I didn’t go look for it. It came to me. I had people approach me from different companies. I hesitated, but this one made sense to me because everybody has to pay their gas and electric bill. Everybody complained about it. It was a no-brainer for me. You have to pay your gas and electric bill no matter what the situation is. Why not help somebody get a discount? We also have a program where you can get your gas and electric bill free as well. That’s helping. It’s been a big-time game changer to me. I’ve been doing it for a few years now. From a $400 investment, in 90 days, I made $20,000 and it’s been growing ever since then.

Those are impressive numbers. Congratulations on doing that and on your success on Ambit. I want to dive a little deeper into that. What does this cause you to have to do as an individual to experience that level of success? That doesn’t happen for everyone that gets involved with network marketing. Perhaps it’s not happening for everyone that gets involved with Ambit. What made it possible for you?

What made it possible for me was the desire to make enough money to start my own program for kids. My goal is to build a facility. I wanted to use my own money to do that because I didn’t want to go to the bank and do all of those paper works, which you have to do. I also didn’t want somebody telling me what to do, how to run my program and stuff like that. That was my goal. They say you have an opportunity to make six figures or seven figures. It depends on you. I’m like, “If I have an opportunity to become a millionaire in this business, why not use the money to do what God wants me to do?” That’s to work with kids. I knew my purpose since I was ten years old. My caseworker gave me my file. At ten years old, they asked me what I wanted to do. Everybody wanted to be a basketball player, a football player or whatever and my purpose was to work with kids. I said that at ten years old because of what I’ve seen and experienced in the system. I was like, “I’m going to use whatever platform I have and try to make this facility manifest to change these kids’ lives.”

Focus on something positive rather than negative. Click To Tweet

When this opportunity came, I took it and ran with it. I experienced negative things, but at the end of the day, I know my purpose and what I’m trying to reach. I couldn’t let the negative stop me from getting me where I want to be. They wrote a big article about me on a big platform because of how fast I was moving and how determined I was. The things that I did to get to where I’m at, nobody would do it. People give up because it’s too hard. When they get rejected, people crush out. There’s something inside of them that would not allow them to want to be rejected. I’ve been rejected since I was a little kid so that didn’t affect me. I slept in my car. I went to New York. I didn’t know anybody there for a few months. I slept in my car and went to Ohio. I slept in my car and went to Massachusetts. I went everywhere. I sacrificed because I already knew everything is only temporary. It all depends on you.

You have a different mindset to resistance. It’s the resistance that may show up in life and in business. Talk to us about that.

I have a different mindset about resistance because it doesn’t affect me. I look at my two kids. They’re twelve and thirteen years old, a boy and a girl. They have their own little business going on. My son got his T-shirt business going on. My wife and I are two different people. She has the mindset of school. I changed her whole mindset. Now she got her own daycare started and working on her second daycare. I always told her to only depend on yourself and God. That’s it. When you’re doing things, everybody is not going to accept what you’re doing. They’re not going to like what you’re doing because there’s so much jealousy and hate in this world. I got all of that.

GCM 58 | Spiritual Soundness

Spiritual Soundness: When we start to figure out who we are, then everything else is going to fall in place.

Everything that I touched, somebody says something negative. The resistance motivated me even more to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish in this network marketing business, which is Ambit. Since I’ve been doing this, a lot of people are offering me money to come over to them and build a business up. I’m loyal to the company that gave me the opportunity. I didn’t say anything negative about the other ones, but Ambit makes a lot of sense. The type of people that I’ve met in this company is unreal. It’s truly a blessing and it’s amazing.

I want to circle back to resistance. I realized that a lot of people might want to be successful in that. As a matter of fact, a lot of people quit network marketing because of the rejection, the resistance and because they don’t get the results that they want. A lot of people want to get what you want. They want to make $20,000 in 90 days like what you did, but that doesn’t happen so they get out of it. You have this way of dealing with resistance. I’m sure you have a team of individuals that are following you in the company. What do you say to them when it comes to resistance? How do you help them manage the resistance that shows up in their business?

I say, “If you’re coming into this with a mindset of thinking about yourself, it’s not going to work. If you want to be selfish and you don’t have the desire to get where you want to be at, it’s not going to work.” I’ve run across so many people that have been in so many different network marketing and I’m like, “Why are you going to so many network marketing? Why don’t you accomplish whatever you’re trying to accomplish?” They’re not consistent. There’s no loyalty. What I realized is not the fact that there’s no loyalty, but that there’s no faith. They have no desire to want to help somebody, show that and not think about yourself. That’s the reason why I got where I was at. People see my heart. I took the money that I made and invested it back to my people because I wouldn’t be in the position that I’m in if it wasn’t for them. I helped them.

People will want to see and know who you are as a person before they want to sit down and make any type of money with you. Click To Tweet

When they saw that, that’s what caused them to understand like, “This guy wants me to succeed in this business.” That’s the thing. It’s not more of the resistance part. It’s more of people that don’t have faith. They don’t believe that this stuff works because it takes too long for them. That’s why a lot of people play the lottery. It’s easy. You pick numbers and just wait for your numbers to get called out. You don’t work for them. When there’s something easy, it’s hard for people to see how hard the work you got to put into network marketing. You’re dealing with a lot of personalities and so many different people on so many different levels. By dealing with this, I’ve learned a lot. I learned stuff about myself that I didn’t even know because I was dealing with people. If you don’t have faith consistently, it’s not going to work.

Do you believe that it holds true in business and in your personal life in general? There’s a lot of people that want to be successful and maybe network marketing isn’t the thing for them. Let’s say they want to be successful in their job or in whatever business they’re in. They want to be successful in their relationship or in their personal life, whatever they have as a definition of success. Do you feel like that is the issue there as well?

Yes. For example, my wife and I have been together for several years. I don’t even know 90% of my family. The ones that I did see weren’t married. I didn’t have any instruction on how to be a father because I never had that. I have to have faith. To have several years with my wife is only by faith. We should be divorced by now, but I promised myself and God before I met my wife. I said, “Whoever I’ve had kids by or whoever that I’m with, I promise that I would not have them go through the things that I went.” It’s me and that’s the problem. When we start to figure out about who we are, everything else may fall in place. I’ve learned and understood. I’m like, “My marriage and my kids are faith.” Nobody told me anything. Nobody told me how to tie my shoes up. I did everything on my own to this day.

GCM 58 | Spiritual Soundness

Spiritual Soundness: People are supposed to change as they get older. It’s natural.

I’m 35 years old and nobody did anything for me. I’ve learned the hard way. By the grace of God, I’m here on your show. That’s what I’m trying to say. It’s faith. I didn’t know I was going to be on your show. I didn’t know I was going to meet you. When I wake up, I have one prayer. I say, “God, thank you for another 24 hours. What you’re going to give me in 24 hours is up to you. I’m not going to ask for it. I’m not going to seek it. If it landed, then you want me to have it.” Even with Ambit, I was with my daughter. We were going to get her nails and feet done when a guy came talking to me. He came talking to me and told me about if I knew anything about deregulation. I have no idea, but I had an open mind. He asked me if I wanted to learn about it. I took it and ran with it. “Sign me up.” I ran out, took off and didn’t look back ever since. This company made me see life in a whole different perspective.

You said that once you know who you are, you can take it from there. What do you mean by that? Can you explain that to the audience?

The only person that knows who you are is God. You know if you’re a person who complains. You know if you’re a person who hates. You know if you’re a negative person. I don’t know who you are, but you know that. Once you understand that you’re a person who is willing to sacrifice anything and who is a giver, you’re going to see where God is going to take you. He knows if you have faith. I’m not the type of person that’s going to judge that. It’s going to all show out. What I’ve learned in network marketing is you can’t listen to what people say. A lot of people say, “I know this person. I’m going to do all that.” When you’re doing that, that’s just showing that you’re trying to impress the next person. Action speaks louder than words. I don’t say anything. I just let my actions speak louder than my words. That’s how you can tell if somebody is a talker or is a mover. A mover won’t talk to you. He’s going to make it happen.

If you don’t have the right perspective and the right heart, you’re not going to be blessed. Click To Tweet

I’ve experienced that. I found that when you have that confidence in yourself and you know what you can do, you don’t have the need to say anything. Sometimes the need to say something and the fact that you are saying you’re going to do this and you’re going to do that shows that you’re trying to convince yourself that you’re going to do it. That is required. You’ve mentioned a lot that this has changed you since you got into network marketing. How has it changed you?

It changed me to be patient and understanding. Coming from my background and the type of things that I was doing, you won’t be patient with anybody, especially when it comes down to money and things like that. You only got one mindset and that’s it. I had to learn it. When you loan somebody money, you expect them to pay you back. God showed me like, “I’m changing you from the way you think. You can’t think fast money. You can’t think the street’s mentality.” I’m like, “This person owes me money. I’m about to do this and do that.” He brought me back to the point where I’m like, “Is it worth it? Is it worth losing everything for small things?” Understanding and doing this business taught me how to see things in other people’s eyes. We don’t know how they grew up. We don’t know their mentality. We don’t know the structure on how they were raised on respect or whatever. It taught me how to deal with people in the business world and in the corporate world. In the corporate world, when you’re in that world, it’s just money. I’m never going to talk to you again if I chose not to. That changed me to be patient with a lot of people.

Coming from where you’ve come from, were you living the life that you described where there’s a lot of money involved in dealing with illegal substances? In the corporate world, I’ve heard that it’s hard to make that transition, which is why a lot of people go back to fast money. It doesn’t happen as fast in the corporate world. I imagine that mindset towards money itself had to change. You said that it’s your mindset towards yourself and not being about you but being about something else or maybe even something more than just the money. Could you explain that a little bit?

GCM 58 | Spiritual Soundness

Spiritual Soundness: People are not happy unless they have money.

It is what it is. It’s fast money. Fast money doesn’t last. I had to get out that mentality because I have kids, a wife and things like that. As you get older, we’re all supposed to change. It’s natural. I wanted to change because I lost my best friend right in front of me. He got shot right in front of me. The guy had a gun to my head as well. That changed me. If he was still alive, who would say that I’ll still be out in the streets? I’ve seen the way I was living with fast money. I’ve seen my life. I already knew I was going to either be dead or in jail because of the life that I was living. If it’s $100 and I see it in a week, I can be grateful for that because I’ve lived another week to see that money. If I make $100 in fifteen seconds, who wouldn’t say that my life will be gone in the next fifteen seconds? There’s a difference between a slow $100 or fast $100. I can see my life so much clearer now because I’m not in that world anymore.

The patience is at a whole another level now because I knew God was real from the situations that I’ve been in. He took me out of them. Now that I’m out of them, I see it even more now. He’s putting in people in my life who are supposed to be in my life that I didn’t ask for. I never asked for any of this stuff. I clearly did not see myself. I didn’t even see myself playing basketball. I had to find something to get myself and my mind focused on something positive than the negative life that I was living. It’s the difference between slow money and fast money. Now I appreciate the money. I appreciate a $10 and a $100. I can live a whole week to get $100. Usually, I’d be like, “You’ve got to spend it. You spend it and it can cost you your life.”

I can sense the appreciation that you have for life and for being where you are or having come through where you are. In addition to that, I can sense the frustration that people may have when they are attempting to be successful or attempting to do maybe what you’re doing in network marketing and not coming fast enough. You said, “It may have taken me a little bit longer, but my perception is I’m still alive. I can appreciate having had the endurance to get where I am to make this amount of money,” which can be the game changer. The fact that it didn’t come fast enough and it’s causing you frustration could cause so much frustration that causes you to quit. What happens is you miss out on your blessing. If you could have been appreciative of where you are and what you’ve done, that could have given you the edge to go a little bit further.

Stay faithful, stay focused, and stay positive until your time comes. Click To Tweet

A lot of times, you’re blessing is just right around the corner from when most people quit and most people give up. It’s having that level of appreciation and gratitude. What you said has given me even more of an appreciation to be grateful every single day, which I am, but even more so now. None of us are promised tomorrow at all. We weren’t even promised what we have right now for the breath that we have right now for this very moment. To be here in itself is a blessing. We have to appreciate that moment and just keep going in an effort to enjoy the next moment, and gratitude for whatever comes between this moment and the next moment.

That’s why I’m so grateful for every little thing. I’m so grateful that I can get up and work out every day. I could see my kids turning twelve and thirteen and also be with the woman who I didn’t see myself being with for several years. To be able to love her and things like that, I’m grateful for that. It’s as simple as things that I’m so happy for. Many people are thinking that material things are going to make them happy. I’d rather have nothing but have people that want to be around me because they love me and honor who I am not because of what I have. That’s the thing. Once you have a lot of things that people want, they only want to be around you because you have those things. They don’t know who the real you are. They don’t want to get to know the real you. They don’t want to do anything. They’re always asking you questions like, “How did you get this nice car? How did you get this big house? What kind of job do you have?”

They’re never asking you how you feel like, “How was your day?” They’re only asking you business stuff. I don’t want to talk about business and all of this stuff. I want to see who you are as a person before I want to sit up and make any type of money with you. If I can’t be your friend and we can’t grow together, why would I want to make any money with you? I already know you’re going to change once the money comes. That’s the thing with my buddy, PJ. When I first met PJ, I said, “It’s about friendship with me. It’s not about money with me because I never know when I might need you. The money goes, but friendship lasts forever.” If I’m not on this earth, I want to know that my wife and my kids are in good hands. That’s what I value. People don’t understand. There’s a lot of money to be made. Money is going to come, but if you don’t have the right perspective and the right heart, God won’t bless you because he knows what you’re going to do. That’s why so many people don’t have any money. That’s why people cannot do any network marketing. It’s because people’s perspective on life is not in the right perspective.

GCM 58 | Spiritual Soundness

Spiritual Soundness: Helping each other and bringing each other together help to make the world a better place.

What would you say is the right perspective?

The right perspective is what you’re going to do with the money, how you are going to treat money and how are you going to treat people. The right perspective is where your heart’s at. If you’re not happy that you are breathing, what is the money going to do? People are not happy unless they have money. That’s the only time people are happy. They’re always talking about bills. They’re always talking about this. You are breathing. You’re not blind. You’re not crippled. God put a lot of people to the test all the time and so many people fail because they’re always complaining at the wrong time. He’s giving you life. What else do you want? If he wakes you up the next day, you have 24 hours. He’s giving you 24 hours to make the best of it. I get up seven days a week and work out seven days a week. I work out hard every day. I’m on a treadmill every day. I do an hour of cardio. I’m in the gym every day and somebody would come to talk to me and want to offer me.

That’s because God is talking to them and manifests me. I didn’t ask for it. I don’t know who these people are. People are complaining about the smallest things. I experienced so much and seen so much and I’m grateful for every little thing. I didn’t know I was going to be here now. I didn’t see myself being 35. My life was already counted to be dead before eighteen. For me to be where I’m at right now, people are shocked. They’re like, “I did not see you being like this.” God can change your life overnight and that fast. You never know when, but you’ve got to stay positive and stay focused until your time comes. Sometimes God doesn’t bless people because you probably complain so much to the point where you’ve been complaining for years. Your faith is not there.

The audience knows my story. I can relate so much to you. I have not gone through the same thing that you’ve gone through on your journey, but the takeaway from the experience is very similar. One thing I can say about you is you are very developed spiritually as an individual. You’re very spiritually sound. The reason why I acknowledge that and bring that up is that I believe that’s the foundation to anything you want to accomplish in life. Spiritual maturity and spiritual soundness is a game changer. It’s the missing link sometimes. For those that may be reading this and dealing with a struggle, a challenge or an obstacle, sometimes you don’t know where to look. Sometimes you don’t know who to talk to, where to go and what to do. When you find yourself in those moments, there isn’t anyone to go talk to. There isn’t anything to do, but to be still and just go within and connect spiritually.

There’s a lot of growth in that spiritual connection. There’s a lot of wisdom in that spiritual connection. There’s a lot of knowledge and everything that you will need to overcome the obstacle to get to the other side of the obstacles in that spiritual connection. Whether you call it God, the universe or whatever you want to call it, that spiritual thing. I call it God, is there to assist you. It’s always with you. What I found is that when you can tap into that, you can do miraculous things. You can get out of situations you didn’t know how to get out of. You can accomplish things you didn’t know how to accomplish. Your life exemplifies that, Calvin. Everything that you’ve said on the show is exuding your spiritual connection. That’s the takeaway for me. How can people reach you, Calvin? If they want to connect with you, learn more about you or get involved with Ambit in any way, how can they connect with you?

You can connect with me on my Instagram. It’s @SelfMade2514. I’m also on Facebook. It’s SelfMade2514 as well. You also have my email, which is CalvinSwan84@gmail.com. You can reach me on my Instagram, my Facebook or my email. That’s the social media that I will usually be on, for the most part, posting up different quotes and stuff like that throughout the day.

Thank you for that. You mentioned you wanted to work with kids. Could you explain to us your vision or your goal for working with kids?

My goal is to have my own facility and have a 24-hour facility open for kids. They can come and grab some food, sleep, shower, learn in life and job opportunities. I want a resource for 24 hours. If God is available for us for 24 hours, why can’t my facility be available for 24 hours?

Is this for teenage kids? Is this going to be for the inner cities?

There’s no label. It’s for anybody that wants help, white, black, Chinese, poor, rich or middle-class. I don’t want to put a label on it. It’s going to be a facility to reach out to everybody, especially bringing everybody together to learn. A kid that’s been poor doesn’t know how to feel to be rich. Why not have them around a rich kid? A rich kid doesn’t know how to be poor. Why not have them to experience to be around a poor kid and helping each other? That’s what it’s all about. It’s bringing each other together. That’s how you’re going to make the world a better place. There are so many people that judge each other. All we do is judge.

Calvin, it’s been a pleasure speaking with you. You are a wonderful person. Thank you for coming on the show and for what you’re doing. You have a heart of gold. This has been a wonderful show. My recommendation is you keep spreading your words around, just be yourself and be authentic and share your message and your journey with people. A lot of people need to hear from you. I support you. I want to help you in any way that I can. Thank you for coming on the show. I appreciate it.

I appreciate you. It’s been truly a blessing. I look forward to us working with each other, lifting each other up and doing whatever I can to help you out as well. I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Thank you. Are there any final words that you would have for the audience?

I want to encourage people to stay faithful, stay focused, stay positive and know God is real. I was talking to my buddy PJ and I was explaining it to him. I said, “Think about this. You got to understand that God is real. If a human being can go all the way up to the moon, they have equipment and everything to go to the moon. Why can’t anybody go down to the ocean without dying? No man can create that. If you don’t have the equipment to go to the ocean, that’s God. Only God can go down there. No man can go down there. That’s how you know that he’s real.” That’s why I tell people to stay faithful. He’s watching over you.

Thanks again for being on the show. Thank you for reading another successful episode of the Game Changer Mentality. As always, peace and love.

About Calvin Swan

GCM 58 | Spiritual SoundnessNo one’s road to success is easy, but Calvin Swan’s was rougher than most. He grew up in the foster care system with no mother or father and was separated from his sisters at an early age. He often found himself in trouble as a teenager, but as he matured and discovered a more spiritual life he steered his life in a more productive direction and found he had a knack for sales.

“I am passionate about sales,” he says “and about helping people achieve their goals, including helping people overcome their fear of rejection in sales. We are here on this earth to make ourselves and other people better!”

Calvin’s love of selling led him to try working with a number of other home-based businesses. It was while he was doing door-to-door sales for another company that he first learned of the Ambit Opportunity. “The fact Ambit helps people get free gas and electric was what impressed me most. I clearly saw the potential of Ambit.” He soon made the decision to join Ambit and set the goal of becoming a National Consultant.
